Learning in a time of COVID-19

Our highest priority is to make your stay as safe as possible in Baja. We have taken advantage of the unique facilities at the Academy, alongside our consistently agreeable climate, to reimagine the MEA experience in a time of COVID-19.

Some indoor, with much more outdoor living.

  • Our meals are all served outside on covered open air decks with plenty of space for separation.
  • Our activities have been redesigned with a sensitivity to increased personal space allowing attendees to regulate and control their own interactions.
  • Our campus has been elegantly redesigned and optimized for open air and social distance interactions.
  • We shifted our classes from mostly inside to mostly outside to create an even more nature-based experience at the Academy.
  • The pergola nestled in our organic garden provides ample cool shade while keeping the health benefits of being outside.
  • Consistent airflow from sea breezes, specially designed tables, and discussion areas provide adequate distancing as well as a degree of intimacy and privacy.
  • We’ve spent the summer working with local farmers, regenerative agriculture experts, and land-based learning educators to reimagine our curriculum and experience to allow us to work outside, engage with our garden, and use the soil and our local environment as one of our teachers here in Baja.
  • We’re happy to report that it has made the experience even richer. We're confident that this will make the MEA experience even richer.

Single accommodations

Through the end of 2020, all guests will be assigned single accommodation regardless of tuition level, with the exception of couples or friends traveling together who elect to share a room. Premium rooms will be awarded to those who elect to pay the single room rate.

Masks

In instances where social distancing can’t be guaranteed, masks will be required. Masks, of course, are welcome and celebrated at all times.

Enhanced cleaning public and private spaces

The health and protection of our guests and team are of utmost importance to us. We follow all CDC cleaning and disinfecting recommendations for hard and soft surfaces, electronics, linens, laundry, and trash handling in all our shared spaces and guest rooms. In the wake of COVID-19 and new protocols, our staff now dedicate twice as much time on cleaning rooms between guest stays. Additionally, our housekeeping staff wear sanitary masks and gloves during all of their cleaning in rooms and on-campus, and will do so until this is no longer best-in-class protocol for hospitality operations.

Reduced capacity ground transportation

Our partner, Todos Santos Private Transportation, pride themselves on their cleanliness and professionalism. Our average ground transportation shuttle has 2 guests per vehicle, each designed to hold between 6-14 guests. We will keep the capacity of our shuttles to half of the available seats for any airport transfer.

Outdoor meals

Our kitchen staff, led by the classically trained Chef Tony, adhere to the highest standards and safety protocols—known as Distintivo H here in Mexico. In addition, all food will be plated and served in our outdoor or indoor/outdoor living spaces, to ensure airflow and circulation and to reduce contact.

Local commitment

The Los Cabos government is working alongside the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) to obtain their global safety stamp of approval that recognizes safe travel protocols. The specially designed stamp will allow international travelers to understand which destinations around the world have adopted global standardized health and hygiene protocols, so visitors can experience “Safe Travels.
